How many users on Twitter, Xing, FacebookTwitter
While thinking of how one could use the upcoming, modern ways of communication, I raised the question of size and user numbers. Here is what I found out:
- Twitter: There are no official figures of the number of Twitter users. Estimations go up to 8 million. Others state 3.5 – 4.5 million users.
- Facebook: More than 175 million active users
- Xing: Reach over 7 million highly qualified experts
Now these are pure top level figures. Let’s have a look at how many of them are from Germany:
- Twitter users in Germany: Some 10’000+
- Facebook: aprox. 1.2 million
- Xing members in Germany: 2.2 millions
So what do we learn: In Germany, Xing is by far the strongest network. Addionally, Xing users are to a large extend paying members (aprox. 8%). There awareness about what’s going on in their Xing network is probably much higher than the one people who just logged in once…
When browsing around and trying to understand how to develop apps for those social networks, a technology popped up: OpenSocial. It seems to be an API or a dev model to develop social apps within existing “Social App Containers”. It’s supported (if not developed) by Google. This document looked interesting to me. And I also found this article quite intersting.
So, what do we do with this enlightenment? Let me know if you have a good idea.
